Carer Support Elmbridge is a charity supporting unpaid carers, who may care for a relative, friend or neighbour. It is completely independent of the statutory agencies.
There are three Carer Support & Advocacy Workers. They are able to offer advocacy, general information, help in obtaining services, home visits, support groups, a listening ear and training opportunities.
Our three Carer Support & Advocacy Workers are Yvonne Clarke, Liz Hopkins and our Parent Carer Support Worker – Anne Hubble.
In Memory of Chris Jackson
CSE are very sad to say, that they have recently lost one of their fantastic trustees. Please see our memorial page for more information about the wonderful man that was Chris Jackson.
Danny cycles for CSE!
One of our lovely parent carers Danny will be riding the Surrey Prudential 100 on Sunday 31st July to help raise money for Carer Support Elmbridge. Danny is hoping to complete the 100 mile challenge in 4 hours and 30 minutes. If you would like to sponsor Danny, please click here – alternatively we can accept ‘offline’ donations by sending money in to the office address clearly labelling that it is sponsorship for the cycle. To keep an eye out for Danny on the day, he will be wearing a pink bib and is number 8908. Good luck Danny and many thanks!
Dominic Raab visits CSE
During Dominic Raab’s visit to Carer Support Elmbride at their office in Walton on Thames on Friday 16th July, he praised the work carried out by the charity, who currently support over 2,500 carers and parent carers throughout Elmbridge.
“Dominic will be contacting David Hodge, Leader Surrey County Council, to give his support for the services currently being provided to carers by Carer Support Elmbridge and to learn more about the proposed reduction in their SCC funding revenue from 2017 onwards. However in the meantime CSE will continue to provide their current level of service and are organising a fundraising programme to combat any reduction in income that will occur as a result of these cuts.”
On Friday 22nd July, a group from CSE have been invited to Hampton Court Palace to celebrate the unearthing of the gnomes! In partnership with Wild at Art, Hampton Court Palace have worked with 15 local community groups to unleash 15 gnomes in their beautiful gardens. These gnomes can be viewed throughout the summer. CSE have worked with Richmond Carers to produce their own version of ‘Umbriel’, who can be found hiding in the maze. Please pop along and visit our gnome throughout the summer! Carers Week Report 2016
CSE celebrated carers week by hosting a number of events. On Saturday 4th June CSE attended Molesey Carnival and hosted a bottle tombola stall, we are very pleased to announce that we raised over £500. We would like to say a big thank you to all that were involved with supporting us for this event – for photos and more information please see our fundraising page.
Garsons Esher, kindly hosted a carer’s cream tea for carers week and donated 30 cream teas for us to enjoy on Tuesday 7th June. A big thank you to Michelle and Ben at Garsons who made this happen for us!
On Wednesday 8th June, 50 carers joined Jenny Pearman and Liz Hopkins for a day trip to Brighton. A fantastic time was had, the weather remained beautiful right until the journey back when the skies opened (of course, Jenny had planned for this). The carers even took part in an on-board quiz during the journey up.
CSE’s new Development Worker
Thanks to a very generous grant from Walton Charity, CSE have now employed Jenny Pearman as their ‘Development Worker’. Jenny has already worked with the CSE team for almost 4 years as their administrator, financial assistant and events organiser. Jenny will be supporting CSE by raising awareness of the support and services available to carers by CSE as well as fundraising and networking with the local community.
The next edition of the CSE Newsletter is now available – CSE – Newsletter Spring 2016
Please note there is an error in the printed edition regarding the walking groups, the next date will be Wednesday 13th April not the 14th. Apologies for any confusion.
New to caring? Need advice on the maze of benefits?
Carers UK have recently launched ‘Upfront’ – the first online carer’s guide for people who are new to caring and need some help navigating the maze of support and information that’s out there. Carers UK have found that half of the people caring for someone 35 hours a week or more had not had a Carer’s Assessment from their local authority. For more information please click here.
You could get Carer’s Credit if you’re caring for someone for at least 20 hours a week. Carer’s Credit is a National Insurance Credit that helps with gaps in your National Insurance Record. Your state pension is based on your national insurance record. For more information please click here.
